Non-tuberculous Acute Psoitis

Abstract
Non-tuberculous Psoas abscess is an important clinical entity, and is an extraperitoneal infection, most commonly infecting young males.
But the early diagnosis of the lesion may offer considerable difficulty.
The clinical course of infection in the retroperitoneal space is surprisingly latent and symptoms are often minimal or absent.
Frequently patient comes to doctor late in the course of the disease and the correct diagnosis may be long delayed.
Little attention has been given to the retroperitoneal abscess and especially of acute psoitis is quite rare, so the author have studied the clinical manifestation of 31 cases of acute psoitis, and tried to analize the etiology, etiological agents and infectious sources.
1) Etiology
It is believed that there are four common methods of infection. These are supparative lymphadenitis, direct extension from an abscess or areas of osteomyelitis, hematogenous spread and trauma as described by Rockwood et all.
2) Etiological agents
a. Staphylococcus-coagulase positive & coagulase negative
b. Staphylococcus and E. coli.
c. Gram negative cocci (other than E. coli. )
d. Sterile;
3) Infectous sources
a. Appendicitis
b. Colonic disease
c. Ureter origin
d. Osteomyelitis
e. Unknown.
